Doors Open returns

Rediscover the Stonetown’s storied buildings on Saturday, Oct. 16

Residents and visitors alike can discover – and rediscover – St. Marys’ impressive architectural history for free on Saturday, October 16.

Doors Open, the popular Ontario Heritage Trust concept that literally opens the doors to interiors of seldom seen buildings to the public to enjoy and appreciate, is occurring as an in-person event this year.

“We’re excited to safely welcome visitors back into our historic structures,” says Town of St. Marys Cultural Services Supervisor Amy Cubberley. “With many buildings being closed or having extremely limited access over the past 18 months, this is an excellent opportunity for our community and visitors to get reacquainted with our heritage.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 16, visitors can check out the interiors of nine sights, including area churches, municipal offices, Broken Rail Brewing and the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Masks will be required for entry with passive screening, social distancing, and capacity limits in effect.

Three outdoor sites are also part of the tour: Grand Trunk Trail Trestle, St. Marys Cemetery, and the Heritage Conservation District, which encompasses the downtown core.

Participants can discover each site at their leisure and attend as many as desired. A guide to all sites will be available on the free Driftscape app. Hard copies of the guide are available via download as well as on the day at the information tent located at Town Hall.
