“Save space for Santa” parking closures Saturday, November 27

Santa makes his traditional parade return to St. Marys this Saturday, November 27 at 7:00 p.m.!

After a year’s absence, the community is asked to “save space for Santa” in the downtown so that those who choose to watch the parade will be able to do so in a socially distanced manner, without the risk of moving and idling vehicles.

Volunteers will begin closing parking stalls on Queen Street between Water and Peel at 4:00 p.m. so that all stalls will be empty by the start of the parade at 7:00 p.m. Short-term parking spots for food pickup only will be designated on Wellington Street. Spots will reopen at the parade’s end.

This year’s parade route will be longer to also encourage social distancing. The parade leaves the Pyramid Recreation Centre at 7:00 p.m., and follows its familiar route up James Street, west on Queen Street through the downtown, then south on Water Street. It will turn left onto Park Street to return to the Pyramid Recreation Centre via James. Santa will not stop at Milt Dunnell Field this year.

For those unable to watch the parade in person, the Front Porch Show will live stream the event with colour commentary, on its Facebook page beginning at 7:00 p.m. Be sure to “Like” The Front Porch Show page to be able to watch.

In anticipation of the warm tidings brought about by Santa’s return, the St. Marys Youth Council will have a socially distanced Toy Drive in the downtown on Saturday, November 27 between 10:00 a.m. and noon and again between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Look for these young volunteers and their festive wagons in the streets for contact-free donating! Donors are asked to focus on items for teens and pre-teens, as this demographic is often overlooked during the holiday season.
