- Canteen
- Picnic areas
- Washrooms and changerooms
See the Town of St. Marys website for more information on swim times and admission guidelines of the Quarry and how to register for the Super Splash Waterpark.
West Quarry
The West Quarry is a unique outdoor destination where visitors can connect with nature, enjoy scenic views, and experience a quieter side of St. Marys.
Formerly known as the Fishing Quarry, the area underwent significant improvements in 2026 as part of the West Quarry Enhancements Project. Site upgrades included removing debris and hazards, improving access to the water, restoring green space, controlling invasive species, and enhancing visitor safety throughout the property.
Today, the West Quarry offers opportunities for fishing, paddling, nature appreciation, and other passive recreational activities in a beautiful natural setting overlooking both the Thames River and the quarry waters.
Before You Visit
To help keep the West Quarry safe and enjoyable for everyone, visitors are asked to follow all posted signage and site regulations.
Fish the Quarry
The West Quarry is a popular destination for shore fishing and is open for fishing from April 1 to November 30, between dawn and dusk. According to the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority (UTRCA), common fish species found in the quarry include common carp, pumpkinseed, and rock bass.
Paddle the Quarry
Visitors are welcome to enjoy the quarry from the water using human-powered watercraft between dawn and dusk. Human powered watercraft include vessels propelled solely by paddles, oars, or pedals such as kayaks, canoes and stand-up paddleboards. Paddlers are encouraged to wear appropriate safety equipment and be mindful of other visitors enjoying the area. Please note there is no official dock/launching point.
Explore the Quarry
Whether you’re looking for a peaceful walk, a scenic picnic spot, or an opportunity to photograph local wildlife, the West Quarry offers a natural escape just minutes from downtown St. Marys. With views of both the quarry and the Thames River, it’s an ideal location for nature walks, birdwatching, photography, picnics, jogging and quiet relaxation.
